Combined with the delicious festive fayre, great festive entertainment there are also scenic sightseeing excursions to enjoy.
Isle of Anglesey
Our first excursion is to The Isle of Anglesey with its rolling green hills and glorious beaches it was known as the ‘Mother of Wales’ in the Middle Ages, due to its wealth of fertile land. To get to Anglesey you cross the impressive Victorian Menai Suspension Bridge.
Part of this trip is a visit to one of the most famous villages in the world, famed for its incredibly long name - Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogeryrchwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch which means The Church of St Mary in the hollow of the white hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio near a red cave, although it is usually shortened to Llanfair P.G. Its other claim to fame is that the Women’s Institute movement was founded here in 1915.
We then head onto Beaumaris, famous for its castle, architecture, sea front and pier. This delightful seaside town with pastel colour houses and craggy coastline has many interesting shops and appealing cafes and restaurants. Other highlights include the stunning Hidden Gardens at Cadnant – one of the very few places you are likely to see a red squirrel! Beaumaris Castle is a visual work of art that towers over the town, it was never actually finished being built, as money and supplies ran out.
Snowdonia
Enjoy a full day out discovering some of the 823 square miles of peace and tranquillity of the historic, diverse and vibrant landscape of Snowdonia. With nine mountain ranges, the highest mountain in England and Wales and a dramatic coastline. It is incredible to believe that 500 million years ago, Mount Snowdon was submerged in seawater, scientists have found shell fossils at its summit…
We continue with this scenic journey to call into Betwys-y-Coed, the gateway to Snowdonia. Enjoy that festive feeling as you immerse yourself in this magical setting with a distinctly Alpine feel that is enhanced by the surrounding dense Gwydr Forest. Betwys-y-Coed literally translates as “prayer house in the woods” as back in 1254 when it was first recorded that was all that it was – a chapel located in the heart of some woodland - a perfect description for this beautiful mountain village!
Llandudno
Experience a whole day in vibrant Llandudno, named as amongst the UK’s most beautiful coastal towns. This Victorian seaside gem boasts stunning views overlooking the Irish Sea and is home to two award-winning beaches. Llandudno is named after saint Tudno and means ‘Tudno’s Church’ with a history that goes back to the Bronze Age.
