The top 6 places to see in England

06 January 2020

We offer coach tours all over the UK and Europe, however, the UK will always be one of our absolute favourites to take our friendly customers round.

With so many little hidden gems that are filled with culture, art and history, the UK remains in our opinion, one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Now, with so many incredible places to see, how do you possibly choose your next trip? Below is a breakdown of the most talked about and most favourable places in the UK. So, whether you’re looking for a relaxing trip or a fun-filled activity adventure, the UK and Palmer Holidays can offer it all.

London

We couldn't create a list that didn’t have this vibrant, bustling and exciting city in. London truly has it all. Holding so much of England’s history, London is filled with various museums that will be sure to surprise and test your British knowledge.

If museums aren’t your thing, then why not check out the many tourist hot spots, the main one being Buckingham Palace. It wouldn’t be a trip to London without visiting the Royal Family.

After your day of sightseeing and walking, stop off at one of the popular West End shows that will be sure to wow you.

Cambridge

The beautiful city of Cambridge boasts both culture and photogenic appearances. With the famous Cambridge universities planted around the city, cobbled streets and fascinating rivers flowing through the city walls, Cambridge is full of various wonderful sights and activities.

If you’re feeling adventurous, hop onto one of the many punts and make your way down the river, a fabulous way to see Cambridge.

If you fancy keeping your feet firmly on the ground, visit the Old Centre, filled with history and beautiful architecture that will force you to take your camera out and snap its beauty. On your journey around the city, make sure to stop off at one of the many universities and take a tour around these magical grounds.

Bath

One of the UK’s smaller cities, but also one of the UK’s most picturesque. Filled with activities and sights to see, Bath makes for a great day out or a relaxing weekend away.

Taking its name from the Roman baths that still sit within the city, Bath has 3 natural hot springs that boast over 43 minerals and average around 46 degrees. Unfortunately, these are not available for a quick dip, however, there are various spas based around the city that will allow you to relax and bathe in these natural wonders.

With Georgian architecture flowing through the city, Bath is filled with places to eat and drink, along with many independent shops for you to wander around in.

If you have a day spare, Bath is a great location for the curious Stonehenge and the exciting Longleat Safari Park.

Cotswolds

Visiting the idyllic Cotswolds is a must for anyone. Whether you’re looking for a thrill or relaxation, the Cotswolds holds beauty, serenity and adventure.

Filled with picturesque homes and local pubs that just ooze with British culture, the Cotswolds has been home for many films and tv sets for decades. With such hits as Pride and Prejudice to Braveheart, it is no wonder these famous films chose to shoot in the beautiful settings of the Cotswolds.

While you’re in the area, the Lake District National Park is something that is not to be missed off your list. With endless kilometres of nature and beauty, the Lake District is the perfect place to breathe in some fresh air and to take a long walk to clear your head.

Cardiff

Wales as a whole is one to add on your bucket list. Filled with natural wonders, hillsides, mountains and breath-taking views, and the capital is no different; a modern, bustling city that still holds historic charm and age.

Visit the harbour to experience the many places to eat and drink, along with stopping by the beautiful museums. Or choose to go into the city and see the grand architecture that Cardiff City holds. With many shops, first-class entertainment and unique attractions all within a short walk of each other, Cardiff will be sure to keep you busy throughout your trip.

Edinburgh

A time machine of beauty and history tucked into a vibrant, colourful city that offers something for everyone.

With an array of museums to visit, fantastic shops and places to eat and drink, plus architecture that you can spend days dreaming about, along with a castle that overlooks it all, Edinburgh is a true delight.

Spend a day walking up the famous Royal Mile, which boasts many of Edinburgh’s most popular tourist attractions, such as Edinburgh Castle, St Giles Cathedral and most likely the needed stop off at The Scotch Whiskey Experience.

Once you have recovered from trying to keep up with the Scott’s in the whiskey experience, visit the other side of the hill and stop off at the beautiful Grassmarket. Tucked away in Edinburgh’s old town, this market square is home to an array of history since the middle ages. This haunting square was once a place held for cattle and executions, now, a lively, picturesque destination filled with independent stores and lively characters.

With all of England’s beauty, it is almost impossible to create a shortlist of must places to see. However, we think this is a great start.

So, whether you’re looking for something that will test you such as the great walks of the Peak District or if you’re looking for something a little more rejuvenating like the relaxing natural spas of Bath. Here at Palmer Holidays, we can offer all of these destinations. Our coach holidays are made to be stress-free, allowing for you to simply sit back, relax and enjoy your journey.
